An organization founded after the 9-11-01 attacks on our country,
to help people exhibit their American pride in the face of crisis.

After that horrific day in our country's history I wanted to do something to help. So I fashioned a red, white and blue fabric bow pin to wear on my chest. At church that Sunday after the attacks I had ten people stop me to inquire about the bow. I said, "I'm selling them for $5.00 each to raise money for the New York Fire 9-11 Relief Fund. How many would you like?" Before I knew it I had ten schools, four churches, and fifteen states involved in making and selling the bows. Within a month we had sent the Fund over $5,000.00.

The goal then became to make one bow for each person that had died on that fateful day. Over $23,000.00 was sent to the Fund before it was closed in November of 2004.

The founding story of BOWS Across America® (Bracing Others With Support) was published in the book "Chicken Soup for the Soul of America," a compilation of stories about the bonding of America during such a tragedy. If you would like to order this book please click here.

The story was also aired on the NBC daytime TV show "Life Moments," September 9th of 2002. It showcased the birth of the organization and then followed it to the inspiring meeting of a victim's family through the mere purchase of a bow. It was indeed a "life moment."

Today bows are made for our servicemen and women, and their families, fighting the war on terrorism. If you would like to get involved in this inspiring project, or simply purchase a bow, please send me an e-mail. This is an excellent community service project. I will travel to your organization, give a speech about the founding of BOWS, and help set up a bow project in your area. It is a most gratifying feeling to remember the fallen but also to help those left behind. This has most assuredly kept this project alive.

"We shall go forward together. The road upward is strong. There are upon our journey, dark and dangerous valleys through which we have to make and fight our way. But it is sure and certain that if we persevere, and we shall persevere, we shall come through dark and dangerous valleys into sunlight broader and more genial and more lasting than mankind has ever known."
  —Winston Churchill
